Emergency Rules Extend Home Care Aide Certification Timelines for Workers Affected by Wildfires

The Washington State Department of Health has extended certification timelines for eligible long-term care workers impacted by the recent wildfires and evacuation orders.

On August 25, 2026, the Department of Health filed emergency rules under the WSR 26-18-023 to provide additional time for eligible long-term care workers to complete the home care aide certification process.

The extension applies to eligible individuals whose certifications deadline falls between August 1, 2026, and November 30, 2026.

Who may be eligible?

If you have been affected by the wildfires or evacuation orders and are currently working toward your home care aide certification, you may be eligible for an extension.

To request an extension, complete the Washington Wildfire Emergency Request Form for Long-term Care Workers.

The Department of Health will review the information provided to determine eligibility. If your extension is approved, the Department of Health will update your record and notify you by email.

If approved, you should continue working toward completing any remaining certification requirements during your extended timeline.
